Is it possible to replace the bearings in the brass sea water pump, or is a new pump the only option. They are getting noisy on my 2002 5.0 MPI.

Usually yes...Post your engine serial number and lets see if it's still original to the engine? It's a Bravo stern drive?

Yes, Bravo 3 stern drive. Engine serial # 0M327931.
So here is a breakdown of the impeller housing for your engine model, https://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/subassembly/31747/7585/270

Found a kit that ought to work too new Merc part number 710-8M0140001, 'old number 8m0050018.

Search the part number online.

Have not taken one of that style apart but have rebuilt other style. If you have a press you should be able to replace the bearings

This is parts for ones I've rebuilt, cost was cheap. I found aftermarket bearings by searching on Merc numbers

Would you know if the newer part number has been updated in any advantageous way?
I know there is a big backlog delay at Mercruiser due to an IT security incident so getting parts is even harder to get then normal right now.

If the shaft is good then using the old number yields a bearing set found in the first 2 options here, https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=8m0050018&_trksid=p2334524.m4084.l1313&_odkw=8M0140001

Or order everything individually or search out Hardin marine sea water pumps for an stainless steel upgrade. https://www.hardin-marine.com/c-116-water-pumps-accessories.aspx
