5.0 MPI 2002 Stalls at speed randomly

Hello,
I'm having an issue that is so random it's driving me nuts to track down. The motor is a 2002 Mercruiser 5.0 MPI Alpha 1. I've taken exceptional of this boat since we bought it new.
The issue is:
- The boat starts fine and idles fine
- It may stall a couple of times when launching until warm
- It gets up on plane and goes smooth
- Then the trouble starts. It could go for 5 minutes or 45 minutes but it will stall at speed without warming. It literally just shuts off.

I have not done a fuel pressure check yet, that's next on my list. I've had enough early Volvo's with FI to recognize the screaming of a failing fuel pump and I kind of hear this in this motor. But that may be me just hoping for a solution.

Has anyone had this issue? Has anyone fixed an issue like this?

My apologies everyone - I see a post about this a few years ago. I even ask a question on the post! Time, age, busy and all that.

Looks like the "resolution" was to do the jumper per the service bulletin and leave it in place. Or buy a new ECM. Service Bulletin is http://www.marinemechanic.com/merc/distributors/mercurymarine/sterndrive/gmefi-nostart.PDF

The bulletin was for 5.0 with serial number range 0M320415-0M642305 and since you have an Alpha the jumper can be used to test, but cannot be left installed. Sure hope your not going to need another ECM
