Just got an 05 tracker boat with a 5.0l mercruiser engine. The engine will crank and want to start up but soon as the engine catches itself to fire it dies. It will run on starting fluid but soon as that runs out the engine dies. Not sure what carb is on there or what to check

it is getting gas from the pump to the carb but im not sure from there. I pulled it apart and there doesnt seem to be anything obvious that it wrong. On the mixture screw is there a baseline to set it at?

Use the throttle and give it some gas when starting, it's not EFI like your car.

It will run on starting fluid but .........

NEVER use that stuff on your engine again. Get it off the boat.

Re: 5.0 Mercruiser no start issue

ok pulled the needle and cleaned it out and it started and ran for a couple seconds then died out. when i give it gas it dies instantly almost like there is a clog somewhere starving it for gas. I had someone start the engine while I looked down the carb and there was no gas being sprayed on to the back of the flaps. Is there a way to adjust the level of the gas inside the bowl? Or is this more of the mixture screw out of adjustment?

Anyone can fix it right the first time. It takes a real tech to do it a second time
