5.0 2002 MPI starting/stalling

Good morning all

I have a 5.0 mpi mercruiser that fires up and runs perfectly for a couple of minutes then stalls, if I set the revs a bit higher it will run but quite lumpy, the boat has been sitting for about 4 months over winter and I am trying to get it ready for summer. I have had the boat for 2 years now with no problem I know it has not had a new fuel filter in this time and as I live in western Australia it does not get cold but we have massive rains and I am wondering if water has got into the fuel system, if so how would I go about draining the tank, any help much appreciated as always

Replace the seperator first. Pour the contents of the old seperator in a glass jar and check for water. Do that first before you think about tank draining.

Changed the filter no water found, should i check the plugs distributer etc next it runs ok on a few revs but on idle it only runs for a few seconds, when i restart it fires perfectly every time ?
