Hi all. Was out on the 4th on my Wellcraft 255. It has the Volvo/Penta 260 model engine. Was idling along and it stalled twice. Started right back up, but have concerns. Carb was rebuilt last fall. It won;t cold start without a shot of starting fluid, but once run it will restart. Any suggestions on what to look for? Oh yeah, was very low on fuel coming in. Was wondering about sucking up gunk from bottom of gas tank. Thanks for any help.

Carb was rebuilt last fall.

Means nothing if you was feeding it dirty/old fuel or fuel with water in it. Do you have a water separating fuel filter on it.
If you have a lot of debris in the tank, it can plug up the pickup tube, or the anti-siphon valve too.

Thanks for the help. I'll put fresh fuel in it and clean or replace all filters. The starting problem has me stumped. Carb has been rebuilt, choke has been gone over. What else?

That's a good idea, but you still have carb problems. Just because it was rebuilt last year doesn't mean it's still clean.

It may be plugged up passages in the accelerator pump circuit. Do you see 2 good streams of fuel going into the throttle bores when you operate the throttle?

PS: You do use the throttle only position and pump the throttle a time or two before you start it don't you?
You aren't trying to just leave it in the idle postion when cold starting are you?

I will check the throttle bores tonight. Yes, I use throttle only and pump the throttle 2 or 3 times.

Hove You looked at the Anti-Siphon valve to check for debris? Also look at the fuel pickup tube some of them even have a filter in the tube. In the picture the parts are arranged as you would put them together. I can tell you alot of people blow out the tube from the fitting not realizing the interior filter will just re clog. here is how I made mine with all the parts. and no interior screen.

Also dont listen to anyone that tells you to use the oil water separator as a filter use this and you can see it to know how dirty it is.fuel pickup exploded view close up of new fab lines .jpgfuel pickup exploded view close.jpg
