Most likely you will end up pulling the gearcase off, the shaft will still be stuck in the crank and your water pump ruined as the impeller key smacks it up. When that happens, remove the power head from the mid section, hang it up-side down in a vice and let penetrating oils work for some time. Then try to 'knock' the powerhead off the shaft. If really unlucky, the splines in the crank will be gone.

True, didnt think about that. The driveshaft will slip right out of the gearcase. Good point. And I have seen the splines in the crank be nearlygone in these little motors.

Got all that back in working condition now I got a problem with the carb... Every time I stop the motor gas pours from it. I also have a problem that it won't run without the choke on... Needs help..

Wheres the gas coming from? As in where from the carb? Sounds like your float is stuck down.

So what happened? Did you get the lower unit off???????

Theres 2hole on top of the carb where the gas is coming from. I got the lower off and cleaned out all the ports and it's now working perfect impeller was fine.

hello guys, I have the same motor 4hp 4W79D and it is running hot as well. I took apart the pump and it is fine, however I noticed in the top of the pump housing there is a small hole that allows water to escape out. Is this supposed to be there? As a relief hole maybe? or is it something someone drilled for who knows what reason? Thanks for your help.

Sorry 2 other things; how should the needle valve on the carb be set (how many turns) and what is the best gas mixture? Thanks again.

you should really start a new thread on your ob issues......just good forum manors. and you will get much better help!! include the model number and any questions you may have.
