i am looking for air gap for coils and point gap specs for a 1949 10hp johnson seahorse QD-11 serial# 838702. thanks for your help<br />john

I'm afraid those coils for the '49-50 are NLA. You might want to try to find a used one from tcoutboard.com laingsoutboards.com vintageoutboard.com or outboard-parts.com . These coils were a lot more reliable than the '51- ones.<br /><br />As for gap, I don't know. I usually just set to .010". (or .007", the thickness of the electrical tape next to the bench. ).<br /><br />If you haven't seen it already, have a look at this:<br />users2.ev1.net/~rainbowchaser/manuals/qd/qdr.html<br /><br />And welcome to to Iboats! <br /><br />PS - Keep an eye on this thread as I'm sure there are people here who know how to gap those coils better.

Gap the points at .020", lonestar.<br /><br />I always set the coil core to flywheel gap by placing strips of paper in each gap until both just barely cleared the flywheel. I felt that centered them to the stator. In the end I am sure that Paul's .010 is what I got.
