It's a bit of a mess down there as far as wiring. So I bet your right. Thanks. I'm an electrician by trade but HATE auto wiring

Like Bonbo suggested a bad ground.
Or the solenoid is going bad.
The wiring harness from the dash.
Clean the contacts.

One of the problems I noticed with mine was several of the wire connections were corroded. I had to cut several connectors off and crimp new ones on. It made several 'things" work that didn't work before. Many boat manufacturers didn't seal crimped connections very well........Go figure:rolleyes:

When I swapped the engine, I used the complete boat harness from the Mercruiser Bayliner when I put it back together. So I completely rewired everything. I also installed a fuse "block" under the instrument panel so they'd be easy to access.

Similar to the one below:

It uses those modern automotive type fuses that are different colors for different ratings.

Years ago when I first got my boat I had the same problem. Cured it by replacing all the crappy automotive grade battery cables when I put in a dual battery system about 10 years ago.

It'll be a winter project but my dash panel has the toggle switch with the fuse next to the switch how does this differ from the fuse block you speak of rick. Planning on jus installing a whole new rocker switch panel.
And lou C this boat has a dual battery set up with large gauge wire. But I'm gonna guess its corrosion somewhere.
