I have an older Humminbird TCR ID1 that the screen has gone out on. I can hopefully have this one repaired. However, I know technology changes. But do the lower Khz models work as well as the 455 Khz transducers??? The only ones I can find now are not made by Humminbird or Eagle. Thaey are all 200 Khz.

The higher the frequency, the more resolution the transducer can send and receive. But Also, the higher the freq, the less depth or penetration it is capable of,as it scatters or reflects off everything and anything.
The trade-off comes into play for the particular water you will spend most of your time on. Salt water, use the lowest freq you can for depth and hard bottom.
If you run in clear, fresh water, go with the higher freqs. Mississippi mud is a simular problem to high freq fishfinders.
I hope this helps.
