40HP Gale Sovereign

Could someone tell me anything about this motor? Wondering what year it is and if it worth sticking any time & money into. Model # 40DE17B Serial # 889359. Seems to run good, and looking at the water pump, everything looks good, but as we all know, would be kind of crazy not to put in a new impeller as long as it's apart, if I can get one. Anyone have a source for parts?

It was made by Gale Products Division of OMC. You may recognize some other OMC brands: Evinrude and Johnson. Your motor is a 1963, the last year Gales were produced. Look at an Evinrude or Johnson of the 1970's and you will see a resurrected Gale 40. It's a fine motor and well worth keeping.

Part number for your impeller is 378891. May have been changed to a newer number. They have them here at iboats. Or any Johnson or Evinrude dealer.
