Does anyone have any info on Turbo 400 trans being used in marine applications? I belive that they were called "Black Max" drive system , any help on this would be greatly apprecciated.Looking for"what/when" info, not for the trans itself,as I have 30 plus years in transmission industry. Thanks again.

Ayuh,.... Transmissions have been tried in various applications, in boats over the years, with pretty much the same results,....

Seen all kinds of inventions in the swamps of Lousianna. Once saw a straight 8 Pontiac engine mounted in a boat. I saw somewhere not long ago that someone was working on a two speed marine transmission.
For one thing, the pure size of a TH400 would take up too much room. The ones I saw used in Lousianna only used low gear forward and reverse. They didn't attempt to use the other gears.

Ayuh,.... I'll say,.... I saw a video of a 350 SBC, 'n T350 mounted on a gimbel post, runnin' as an Outboard, swamp devil style....

Check out the Seven motors... That'll make your sweet tooth ache.

http://www.seven-marine.com/

PERFORMANCE THROUGH TECHNOLOGY
Closed-loop cooling, an ECU-controlled octane scaler, and dual 3.5" exhaust are among the myriad technological advances Seven Marine has brought to the outboard market.

Ayuh,.... A Cadillac block,... I guess that'd make it not only the Most Biggest Horsepower outboard motor,...

But the Cadillac of outboards too,.... pun intended....

over two years ago, I was at Davis Engineering to talk heat exchangers for what was to become Seven Marine. seeing the motor in person is enough to give a gear head a stiffy. then again, anything done by Rick Davis and his sons is all gear head eye candy

If someone backed one of those in my shop I'd probably wet myself.

Re: 400 Transmission in a boat?

Hey everybody,I was actually serious, some manufacturers really used a turbo 400 in some models of inboard boats.I had info on these but an ill timed computor crash fixed that for me and now I cant find it on the net.I am trying to get this info so i can use it to figure a way to drop the front of my motor in my straight drive Luhrs. Ineed to drop it about 2-4 inches so I can put the deck where I want it and not where they put it .It would really make any thermostat housing issues, maint ect. much easier. I need a u-joint or constant velocity joint to make this work as the shaft and crankshaft on the boat are "in-line"with each other. Thanks for looking,I really do appreciate the info.Anything on trans/shaft angle would be great.
