I just bought a boat and trailer that has a 5 pole flat connector. (It's wired for brakes but doesn't have them)My truck is wired with a 4 pole connector.(previous boat was a 4 pole- no brakes)
Two questions:
1. Is there an adapter for a 4 to a 5 connector? I see 4 to 6 etc but no 4 to 5
2.Is there a better type connector, round or ? My flat on the truck always comes loose. I had the same problem on my previous connector.

Re: 4 pole to 5 pole adapter

I would rewire both the vehicle and trailer ends with matching plugs.About any auto parts store has these. The round plugs do kind of lock in the socket but unless you are adding brakes the 4 pin is all you need.

I agree, but I'd go to the 7 plug and get ready for the brakes. If you find a 4 on a trailer later you can by the adapter, if you need the brake your ready and if you buy a travel trailer your set.
