4.3l starter won't engage

I have a 89 omc 4.3l v6 and the engine will not crank due to the starter not turning over, I used a screw driver to jump the solenoid and it cranked so I thought the solenoid was bad, I replaced the starter and solenoid, + and - batt wires, ignition switch, still nothing, all fuses are good, checked wiring with volt meter, now what??? the only other thing I can think of would be the shifter??? any ideas, thanks

also batt if fully charged and all wire ends are clean and tight

I would bet you have a bad slave solenoid.. Here is how to troubleshoot the starting system. It may say it's for the Merc 470, but it's the same setup you have.

I replaced the solenoid and I still have nothing, I opened the gear shifter box and used a screw driver to activate the switch inside and still nothing?

hey guys I tested the system and the new solenoid was bad so I replaced it again and nothing so I cut the two wires going in to the shift control and twisted the boat side wires together and it now turns over, but the switch in the throttle control is no longer available so I bought a used shift/ throttle control on ebay and neither seem to work am I missing some thing hear, also when turning over the engine the prop turn slightly
