Hi guys and gals long time reader first time poster! I have changed everything on the motor even the motor all new block starter flywheel ect...same loud grinding nosie from the starter a nosie I hoped to lose by a motor swap long block style! Before reinstalling new motor pulled plugs and jumped it over and over very smooth! back in the boat and lower unit on a nasty sounding problem absolutly at my wits end any suggestions short of knocking a hole in it and watching it sink I would greatly appreciate thanks

Pull the drive and see if you still have the noise, if you do, pull the spark plugs again and try it.

What outdrive do you have? Nothing hard about R&Ring a drive, you just need to follow a few steps.

Short version

1. Put the shifter into forward gear.
2. Disconnect trim rams from back of drive.
3. Remove 6 mounting nuts.
4. Pull drive off the boat. Do it slowly, and the drive shaft will miss your fingers because you can see where it's at.

Here is the procedure from the OEM Service manual.
This is what you use to make sure you put it back on correctly.

Thanks ill give it a shot! I hooked paddles to it today 15 starts no grind! But on the lake yesterday couple starts sounded like the starter was going to shear off which has happen the nosie and starter problem is why i changed everything could I have got the wrong flywheel starter combo? The flywheel was new last summer and ordered and put on by a shop! Didn't fix it so I replaced the long block still no luck
