4.3L mercruiser will not stay running

1995 4.3L mercrusier quit running. mechanic<br />changed ignition module and it ran 40 minutes<br />then quit. he changed the sensor in the distributor and it started and ran 2-3 times<br />then did the same . it starts & runs for about a minute then stops.<br />any advice or suggestions would be greatly<br />appreciated.<br />thanks

Look for an inline resistor block,inline with the CD unit. It will check good with an ohmeter,but it could be opening-up when it heats up. If replaced, and it still does this, the CD is way too hot. But note, these resistors are made to take high heat,so It will get very hot normally. They mount them in different places on different installs,so it may require some tracking-down to find it.<br />But, they are allmost allways mounted to the intake riser (at least,on the ones I have seen,which aint many). Do not be tempted to bypass this resistor. It will run fine...For about 10minutes. Then, the HVCD unit will self-destruct.
