To whomever can help...

I took my boat out cruising yesterday and ran into an issue of spitting and sputtering while trying to accelerate. I have never had this problem before, it happened after about an hour of running 3/4s throttle so almost wide open. We stopped into a marina for a few mins to get a snack, after pulling out and attempting to get back on the gas all that happening was spitting and sputtering like a missfire. We let it sit for about 20 mins and it fired right up and was running fine until we were about 100 yards from our destination, i limped it to the island (spitting and sputtering). After talking with some guys they said my coil pack was getting hot and that if i wanted to get it back to the trailer with it running good to let it cool down for a couple of hours. I did just that and it ran great while heading back to the landing. So is my problem the coil? I just had new plugs and wires done this past spring. Could it be the distributor?

Anything would help.

Thanks

Steve

Could be a vacuum on the fuel tank, bad gas, and it could be the coil. Could also be a vapor lock issue but that depends on type of gas used, how much heat is invloved (how hot was it). The easy thing is to pull the cap and have a look, then if you can find a replacement coil from a good engine swap and see if that stops the problem. It sounds like a heat or time related issue (fuel vacuum).
