Look at the cable shift plate( on the starb. riser)and find the interrupt switch.Move the lever that triggers the switch and see if the switch is off(in center of lever detent)If not,the switch is grounding the coil.

can someone post a pic of the shift plate, interrupt switch?

I put it into forward and reverse several times with no problems...don't know what else to do other than sit it on the ramp and see if it happens again.

A bad cable will let it run fine on muffs; when prop is in water and exerting pressure, cable (or esa) will kill it.

Re: 4.3 Mercruiser Starting Trouble

Well I had it out this weekend and she ran fine. The only thing I can figure is that the switch may have been stuck from lack of use for a while then freed itself up after messing with it a few times. Hopefully it won't give me problems again. I do keep enough tools on the boat to bypass it if I ever need to and if that doesn't fix it I invested in towing insurance this year. Thanks for all the help guys!
