- I have an Volvo-Penta 4.3 liter (2001, 2BL 190 H.P)) which I understand is basically a Chevy Vortec 4.3 long block that Volvo buys, and put on their own exhaust manifolds, etc. Can I use an regular automotive oil filter on this motor ? If so, does anybody know a good parts number for the filter (AC-Delco , Purolator, etc.)?

- What about spark plugs ? I'm inclined to use OEM's here, but I figured I get some opinions.

Thanks Again!

Re: 4.3 liter chevy parts

That is correct. The block is basicly the same.
I would stick with the O.E.M. plugs too,as operating temps and engine loads are totally different. The filters are all directly interchangeable on the mercruisers, so I don't think you'll have a problem using auto filters on the Volvo.
Thermostats are different, as they have to open at a cooler temp.
Alternators are the same internally, but in some marine applications, they put them in a different case, or use special insulated bolts or bushings (the old "dissimular metals" problem).
