Hey Guys,
This is my first post and I have gained alot of info from just reading a few of the posts on here so I am confident I will get the answer I need.
I got a 1976 Wellcraft from a "mobile mechanic" said the boat needed a starter solenoid...
After verifying it wasn't locked up I proceeded from there.
Here is what was wrong: The postive cable coming from the solenoid was on the starter post ALong with the negative terminal from the battery. The Coil was extremely hot so this is what I replaced:
Starter, ignition coil, points&condensor as well as the solenoid and ignition switch(it was sticky turning)
I wired it up according to an old shop manual from my old ford truck and it will fire off but as soon as I take the key out of the start position it dies. Essentially it will only run in the start position.
I have checked every wire as well as tried to jump the positive side of the coil with a wire from the pos side of the battery, same issue.
There is a wire going to the choke looks like a bleached tan wire or maybe white that was wire nutted together and prior to re-starting I disconnected it since it looked suspect. Same thing happened,it would fire off but die when in the run postition. If i connect that wire back together the starter will not disengage.
Can anybody point me in a direction to get this ol girl going?
