Ok before I dig in and change a fuel pump, I would love some experienced input.
1 have '98 Crownline, with the Mag 350 MPI Bravo 3. 700 hours, well maintained and runs perfect. Engine Serial number OLO34XXX
Last weekend at the end of the day, headed home, started right up, got on plane as normal, after a couple minutes on plane, the engine stumbled once and shut down. Sat for a minute then it started back up. Idled for a short time and then stumbled and shut down again. Trying to start, it would try to fire but wouldn't start. then finally just crank with no fire.
I hadn't changed the fuel filter in a long while, and hoped that was the problem. Got a tow back to the marina, and the next day I changed the filter. Hit the key and could hear the pump cycle on, but not as long as I expected thinking the filter needed to fill. But, hit the key and it started right up and seemed to run fine. I was happy thinking that the filter fixed the problem. It ran for a few minutes, before it stumbled and died again. Now when I hit the key, the pump doesn't cycle. When cranking, it would again, try to fire but wouldn't start, then just crank with no fire. No pump cycling when I turn the key on. I haven't measured any pressures at this point. A few years ago, the injectors were fully serviced, cleaned and replaced, and fuel never sits long. The fuel in the tank is only a few weeks old and has a few cruises on it (we burn through a lot of fuel ;-))
I checked all fuses and breakers so I don't see anything electrical.
I think I have the pump/cooler on the lower port side of the engine?
Am I on the right track with this pump being the culprit?
Is there a separate priming pump? Could that be the issue?
I know this job is a PITA so I am hoping to gat as much advice before digging in.
