When I shift from neutral to reverse, it dies.

It goes into forward gear just fine, every time.

I found a thread about adjusting the throttle cables, as it seems that they may be getting out of sync and causing the ignition interruptor to engage.

Which cable should I be looking at, and do I need to tighten or loosen it?

Does anyone have a diagram or illustration that shows how these cables work?

Thanks for your assistance!

Your lower shift cable is shot. Time to change it.

About 99.9% of the time, the lower shift cable is binding and causing the engine to stall. Replacing that cable and readjusting per the manual cures the problem. In case you are in the .1% that the adjustment may work, here is how it's done.
