I found a 35 hp seahorse at the dump this winter. The shift indicator was broken in forward( outside lever not internal Ithink). It has good comp. But the wire harness ends in a connnector in the engine. Like it would go up to the front of the boats Dash.

What im asking is how can i hot wire it to see if it will run ? At the connector in the engine i can see the colored wires. Which should i jump to make it work? If nothing at all i would like to see or feel a spark. Oh and it has the wires running out the case for batt hookup. The neg. would be the one that connects to the engine block right?? and positive connects to the selinoid?

Lastly on the carb hood thing It says somthing about 25 hp. But the hood says 35. IN the serial is looks liek it might be a 25.???

Hear are the numbers.

Model no 25e78e
serial no E4876218

Any and all comments are welcome:)

You have a 25 HP according to your model #.
You are correct about the battery cables.

I jumped started a 50 hp that was missing the controls. I had a battery and two heavy wires with connectors on the end. I hooked up the negative to the battery and then fastened the other end behind a bolt on the starter bracket.
The positive I hooked up to the battery and left the other end of the wire exposed (no connector).
I started the motor by touching the + cable to that exposed wire on the starter where the + cable hooks to. You will know it when you see it. When it starts pull the wire off. It's pretty simple.
When you want to stop the motor just choke it and it will die.

1st get yourself a service manual http://www.outboardbooks.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=models.main&year=1978&ID=52529

rather than taking a chance on blowing up a battery. jump your motor the correct way. attach the positive cable to the solenoid, and the ground to the block. the use a remote starter switch to test the motor.

OK ill have to look at it some more. But in side there is a male plug end hanging by the back of the motor with 2 larger prongs and 3 smaller ones. I was wondering what this would be connected to.??

Don't run the motor without a battery hooked up.If it has a charge circuit it will be damaged with no battery.
