32-861213 hot pipe from exaust manifold to intake manifold - what for?

Hi,
I have a Merc 5.7 EFI with this exhaust tube.
I'm just about to install a HITEK stainlesssteel exhaust system.
On the HITEK System there is no connection. thexy told me this Exhaus tube is not necessary an can be blocked on the intake side.
Would be grat if somebody can give me some information on that.
Is this tube for some kind of EGR?
I couldn't find any info in the I-Net what this is good for

On carb models, the tube from the exaust manifold to the intake warms the intake for better fuel management. Vortec head do not have the exaust crossover in the manifold
