Re: 30 horse evenrude

sorry guys I ment to give you the year It is a 1986 30 hp rude short shaft. Have had problems with the starter a few times and the starter mount bolt broke off in the engin. Tryed to get out but the thing is full of corrision. The starter is working a little and is binding because I can't aline it rt. A friend says that he has 2 motors that some one gave him a while ago that have pull starts on them one is a 1980 25 hp rude with tiller and the other is a maybe a late 70's to early 80's 40 hp tiller mine is not a tiller.
I have been pull starting it now for a month or so. I will admit that this boat and motor is in ruff shape I use it to work on my cohog grant so it goes all wintr and summer and open to all kinds of weather.

If you're already pull starting it, what's to change? Get some good penetrating oil (not WD-40) and work on the busted bolt and fix the electric starter whey don' ya.
I gotta ask, what's a "cohog grant"?

g'luck & c/6

Hooty

Re: 30 horse evenrude

The motor runs great but it takes a few times to pull start and I have to keep wraping the rope around and pull. Pulling off the cover to do so. The bolt hole is a mess with failed attemped at drilling it out. I would like to put a reguler pull start to avoid this.

I use cohog foir short, A cohog (Quahog) grant is a farm in the ocean I buy cohog seed in the spring and put it in a nursery for the summer then I move it to the ocean bottom to grow for about 3 years then I dig them up and sell them they are then cherry stones.

About the only place I can think of to look for you a rope starter is on ebay. Give it a try.

Cherry stones, like cherrystone clams?

c/6

Hooty

I have a couple of part motors and will see if i can make something out of the two I have.
Yes cherry stone clams. That is what I do. Farm them in Cape Cod bay and some on the Chatam side of the cape.
