I have 3 questions about the J. reeves timing method.
1. Can all Evinrudes be timed ( 40 hp or larger) like this?
2. Should water with muffs be used to lubricate the impeller.
3. Should shift lever be in neutral or forward gear when turning motor.

My 85hp is timed like this, not sure but I assume that all are timed that way.

2. Should water with muffs be used to lubricate the impeller.

Your only cranking on the starter for a few seconds. I have never ran the muffs.

3. Should shift lever be in neutral or forward gear when turning motor.

If your engine turns over in gear, then you need to repair your neutral safety switch.

1. Can all Evinrudes be timed ( 40 hp or larger) like this? ----------------------> Yes

2. Should water with muffs be used to lubricate the impeller. ------------------> Not needed unless extremely dry... your choice. Might be a good idea to temporarily wet it.

3. Should shift lever be in neutral or forward gear when turning motor. ---------> Doesn't matter unless a shift blocking device prevents the spark advance from obtaining the full spark advance position, in which case being in forward gear is needed.
