I have an 82 75 hp Evinrude 3 cylinder.
It is a great motor, but has developed a perplexing problem.
When first started it seems to be carrying a cylinder until it warms up. It idles fine and starts with no difficulty. It takes about 2-3 minutes until the other cyl. kicks in. It starts hitting intermittently, and then all of a sudden goes like gangbusters.
It runs like a top the rest of the day
Visual inspection reveals nothing out of the ordinary, and since it's on a pontoon, trying to diagnose it on the boat, underway, is difficult at best.
I'm thinking a bad coil, but before I start throwing parts at it, any suggestions from y'all?

Thanks,
Cliff

sound to me like a plug fouling out, then when it warms up starting to fire. Just a thought.

And welcome to I- Boats!

I think coils usually quit when they get hot, not when they are cold.
I agree new plugs would be a 1st step.

Thanks rwise and Ed
I cleaned and gapped the plugs, they didn't look too bad.
I'll replace them and give it another try.

Just a thought, I'm not a mechanic, but I often hear about 3 cyl. Evin./John. burning a piston because of running lean on one cylinder.
Could that cylinder be so lean that it isn't firing until it warms up a bit.
A visual check of plug should give some info.
