Over the weekend I had my 1992 Bayliner boat out on the water. It has a 3.0L Mercuiser Alpha one I/O Motor. It started up fine the first day. Then on the water It wouldn't start. I checked the kill switch and it was fine. Everytime I would turn the key and I would here the starter click but not ingage. I just used a screwdriver and bypassed the 2 terminals on the starter and the boat fired right up. Later I turned the boat off and the key started the boat on the 3rd try. It clicked twice then it fired right up. So after playing with it I thought it was the solenoid on the starter. I had a good solenoid on shore so when I got back there I replaced it. I'm still getting the same results. About ever 7th to 10th try with the key it will start. I can bypass the terminals and it will fire right up evertime.
