Hi I have a 1987 Larson with a 3.0l mer that was rebuilt about 2 years ago with low hours. The other day i was out and it was running great then i heard it studder when i was going prob 3/4 throttle. and it just kept getting worse. i pulled the boat out of the water and checked the plugs, they were a little fouled but not bad but i replaced them and fired it up and it ran great again so i took it back to the lake. ran great most of the day then it started to studder and backfire, this time when i opened the engine cover i saw that the carb was covered in oil. and the vent tube from the valve cover was spitting oil into the carb causing it to studder and stall. so i checked the compression and the compression was about 125 each. I then removed the valve cover to see if there was anything clogging the oil returns (clear) and everything seemed fine. there seems to be a decent amount of air coming out of the breather tube but im not sure what is normal. The boat runs great until the oil gets into the carb and once i clean it out it starts right up and runs great again no engine noise no smoke nothing.. since the engine has less then 100hr on it i cant believe that the rings are bad already. i checked the oil and besides it being low (because its spitting out) its clean and has no smell of gas and no sign of water could this be a bad valve?
