3.0l hotrodding?

[tired of swimming]

howdy,..
looking at picking up a 17foot searay or maxum with this motor. anybody done any hotrodding? efi conversion? forced induction? is this motor based on a n auto or implement motor?

There's not much you can do the the small engines to increase performance and stay within the safety standards set by laws. If you really want to go fast buy a go-fast boat.

There is no replacement for displacement. its true in hot rod car world its true in boat world.
Personally I would have no problem with the 3.0. as long as you dont expect a rocket. My buddy has a 3.0 in his boat and he is happy with it. Its no rocket but it takes 3-4 people where they want to go. if you overload it and then try to pull skiers then thats when the boat struggles.
Nothing wrong with the smaller motor but you will wish for more power. its jsut the way it is. Jsut liek if you bought a 17 foot boat youll wish for a 19-22 foot boat and so on
For my first boat I jsut bought a used bayliner with a v8. im happy with it ill keep it for the next 4-5 years and then sell it maybe or if it still runs good I may just hang on to it

thx,..
is the 3.0 based on any chev engine? maybe from their agricultural side? my biggest beef is a non cross flow head,.. although the valves look to be of a decent size. i guess if more pulling power is needed,. you could prop it down,..

Yep I just change props on my 120 if I want speed or to tow a tube; only downside is getting to plane with the speed prop takes a bit. Figure it is a learner boat them I'll get a v8.
