3.0 omc stalls during takeoff

I have a 1993 four winns with a 3.0 omc. The boat starts easily and idles smoothly. It also revs fine. When I try to take off, it seems to bog and even jerk a bit-but only for about 3-5 seconds. It then catches and accelerates smoothly up to wide open and will run fine until I stop and try to accelerate again. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I HAVE A 1989 3 LTR OMC that does the same thing.If I come on to it hard it bogs for a second or two,but if I accelerate at a med even pace it doesn't do it.I tried adjusting the accelerator rod on the carb as per book but didn't seem to help alot;

I have tried to accelerate fast, slow and everything in between. It does it 9 out of 10 times.

You can adjust all you want but I am almost certain you both have clogged accelerator pumps. Quite possible with the age of those engines and the lack of a stock fuel water separator that you have debris/corrosion in there. If you are mechanically inclined, rebuild the carburetor, probably $85 or so in parts and the kit can be had from napa or similar usually (get the float, comes separately). There is a channel that feeds the accelerator pump as well as the outlet and a ball check valve. There are all pretty small and easy to clog.

You can test it pretty easy. Take the flame arrestor off, and have someone push the throttle while you look down the carb, you should see a stream of gas coming out over the throttle blades.

Then after you get it running well again, put a fuel water separator on it.

I have a fuel water separator and my carb is clean.If I don't accelerate hard mine does not do it.I can live with that,

ok-I finally have had time to check the accelerator pump. Engaging the throttle gets two good streams of fuel. Also, the boat has a spin on fuel filter and water separator (omc #502906) that was changed during a service visit in March. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

For all it cost's rebuild the carb and if that doesn't do it look into your fuel pressure to carb
