I unplug the Grey connector that has a purple and grey wire right? That goes from the harness to the coil ? not the one connecting from the coil to the distributor right?
Right.I unplug the Grey connector that has a purple and grey wire right? That goes from the harness to the coil ? not the one connecting from the coil to the distributor right?
Ayuh,..... You won't as the filter is on the vacuum side of the pump,....ok i undid the fuel line to the carb and unplugged the purple /grey connector and im.not getting any gas out of the hose. ive cranked it more the 3 seconds , 3 or 4 times. But i did change that fuel filter out, i think i put it back right and tight. Can a loose filter housing or if one of those rubber washers cause no flow ? i dont see or smell gas leaking from the pump.
Yes. The pump is trying to pull fuel from the tank (as well as push fuel to the carb, pumps pull fuel from the source). If you have a leak on the suction side, the pump will just pull air, and you may not ever see fuel leaking out, because the pump is sucking, not pressurizing on that side of the system.... Can a loose filter housing or if one of those rubber washers cause no flow ?
the tank is full i opened the cover and i can see the gas moving its fullDumb question but, are you sure you have enough fuel in the tank? Is the bow of the boat sitting lower than the stern?
This happened to me when I traded my last boat. We had it on the lake the night before we traded it in just to make sure it ran perfectly and to burn some fuel, there was a little less than a 1/4 tank. At the dealership, they started it with the bow down, it ran for a minute and basically ran out of gas.
So it wouldn't start, they took the carb off, told me the fuel pump was bad, etc, etc. When I saw the boat, in so many well chosen words, I told them the tank was low on fuel, raise the bow of the boat higher than the stern and you'll be fine. Five minutes later it was purring like a kitten.
Just had to ask. . .
i only see a black hose running from the fuel pump to the fuel tank no valves or screens ?I would also check the anti siphon valve in fuel line by tank pick up is opening and flowing, also worth checking fuel pick up tube screen for debris if this hasn't been done. Some pick ups have a somewhat hidden screen in the pick up tube.
Screen is in the tank need to find the access hole and remove it or unscrew pick up tube from tanki only see a black hose running from the fuel pump to the fuel tank no valves or screens ?
ok chris i did that and no fuel is coming out ? i tried cranking it over 10 times nothing.. should i pull the pump?Disconnect the fuel line from the carb. Attach a length of flexible tubing (local hardware shop should have some tygon tubing). Disable the ignition (something like... remove the wire to the points, or ground the wire that runs from the coil - to the shift interrupt switch, or put a small jumper wire between the terminals on the interrupt switch. DO NOT just disconnect the HT lead between cool and distributor. All that does is ensure you have an open spark). Put the other end of the tubing into a suitable container and crank the engine. You get a good stream of fuel, pull the carb. No fuel, pull the pump.
Chris....
I would.ok chris i did that and no fuel is coming out ? i tried cranking it over 10 times nothing.. should i pull the pump?
yes. Be sure to get a marine rated pump also.ok chris i did that and no fuel is coming out ? i tried cranking it over 10 times nothing.. should i pull the pump?
fuel pump is likely as Chris pointed out, just making the comment to verify there are no up stream blockages that are stooping fuel from getting to the pump.so its not my fuel pump thats bad ? i thought chris said to do the test like i done and if no fuel comes out its a bad pump? i opened the access port to the fuel tank i see the gauge and then i see 2 hoses on the top side of tank, a small one and a larger one.
Ayuh,..... You, Could do one more test,......ok chris i did that and no fuel is coming out ? i tried cranking it over 10 times nothing.. should i pull the pump?
