I have a '96 Sea Ray with a 3.0 Litre LX Mercruiser. Every since I have had the boat it has cranked slow. I've had the timing set and use a Marine Cranking battery. Last year, determined to find the problem, I was fooling with the starter and noticed it was loose. The front part was bolted tight to the bell housing but the back part of the starter wiggled so I tightened the two small bolts that held the starter together. To my surprise, it would not crank at all after that.....loosen the bolts and it cranks.....slowly. Any ideas?
