Does 2oz CSM add strength to transom or floor if applied to both sides? I know about 1708 but what about CSM? I have a roll of 60 yards and am trying to use it. Also have a few packages of some basic cloth from Walmart.

Thats the transom which is 2 pieces of 3/4 ply with 2oz CSM

Thanks!

Sure it adds some strength, not like heavy cloth, woven roving or biax, but yes it helps. As far as your deck ( floor) the CSM is fine, the plywood alone is strong enough, the CSM and resin is just sealing it, although it does add some stiffness to the plywood.

Now for the transom NO, don 't use the CSM alone to tie into your hull, use a layer of the CSM along with the cloth or the 1708 biax that has the Matt stitched in.

Lets talk deck.......3/4 ply with just resin spread on both sides is ok? Mat and resin on both side is overkill? It realy doesn't matter, either is fine?

Lets talk transom......2oz CSM is not good enough to tie into hull. Got it! Is CSM enough to apply to both sides of transom and then 1708 around the outer edge and tab into hull? CSM both sides of new transom then 1708 biax the whole side and tab to hull. Thanks again!

Almost, resin alone (polyester) will do nothing but crack without the Matt and quickly, now 2 oz is a bit of overkill, 1-1/2 oz is fine, but since you have the 2 then certainly use it.

Transom 2 layers of the 1708 min. and overlap by 6" to 8" each layer.

This is how I build em. Maybe it will help you. 1708 first layer is 5" overlap on Side of Hull and 2nd is 10"

3-4 layers of 1708 for All tabbings ( one layer of mat first ).

Over all glass on transom..well that would depend on if its I/O or OB .. or IB..

Whatcha got ?
