2hp Johnson Bogging Down

I have a '83 Johnson 2hp, J2RCTD, which is bogging down on me. It started acting off under a load. So, I recently redid the carb with a new kit. Reset the idles to the specs in the service manual. Spark plug is new. I'm having trouble with it under a load now. It seems to be getting worse. Motor starts fine and idles well. If accelerated to full throttle it will run for several seconds and then begin to bog down and chug with an increase in exhaust cloud. If the throttle isn't reduced, it will die off. If throttle is put back to run setting it begins to idle well. Seems to be worse as motor warms up or is run for a while. The high speed orifice does not seem to be clogged or have debris. I've tried adjusting the high speed idle to no effect. Compression looks good. Any advice on how to proceed next??

Thanks,

Matt

I would check the hight of the floating barrel in the carb next. (Point of when the needle valve opens and closes.)

Fuel filter in the tank. Or water in the gas. Or tank vent not open or clogged.

Crosbyman, thanks for the reply. I replaced the impeller this summer. I get a wet mist from the exhaust ports. Not a stream of water, more a mist. Motor block doesn't seem unreasonably hot to the touch.

I have one of these "power houses" and all the pee stream is a mist just as you discribe.Mine did much the same things as yours did untill I discovered it was the vent cap.The OEM part was a tad expensive BUT the vent cap for an Echo ice auger with a Tecumseh motor was a perfect fit and 1/4 the price.
