280 outdrive drops during transport.

Just bought an old Glasply with AQ140 and a 280 outdrive. On the way home while doing a walk around I discovered the leg was getting too close to the pavement. I've not had an old Volvo for a lot of years but was surprised. I managed to get a 2x4 jambed in to get it home. Is this to be expected, do I need some king of transom saver or?? thanks to those who know.

The genuine Volvo trailering bracket is a PITA to use. The transom saver kit is easier to use and more reliable.
