I need to clean out the carb on my dad's pontoon motor after is sat for 6 mo and now starves for fuel. It runs great at very low speeds, but quickly starves down and dies if you accelerate. It looks like the port nut on the carb barrel is too tight behind the starter to access. Is there a trick here? Do I have to figure out how to remove the starter?( Hope not) I wondered if there was any chemical cleaner one could use instead of a carb removal/cleanout. Any help would be so much appreciated. Sorry about so many questions.

THanks

disconnect negative batttery cable, remove the throttle linkage bracket, you have 3 - 1/2" bolts to remove to get starter off. then you can get to the bolt. sorry there are no tricks.

Re: 28 SPL Carb removal

Thanks for the very quick help! As I feared about the starter removal. Speaking of easy outs, is there any need to try to run any fuel/carb cleaner through the fuel line? I suspect I know the answer to this also....
