270 pops up when in reverse

My 85 volvo 270 outdrive pops up when in reverse! As long as i don't give it throttle it'll stay down.

Lockdown mechanism may have the paws that catch the cross pin rounded off, or springs could be missing or damaged or you may not have the drive all the way down. Did the light at the helm go out?

Page 19 figure 26 shows the mechanism. and be sure to check the adjustments on page 29.

I have the same issue on my starboard outdrive only. Mine is an 85 280.

When out of the water it is locked down. i shifted it inter reverse on the trailer, and still locked down. in the water with the engine running, it will pop up with any amount of throttle at all.

What gives?
