Could you folks settle an argument. On a 97 25hp merc remote which is correct- With the motor off and the gear in F the prop should turn CW and not CC, in N it should spin both ways and in R it should not spin at all. Or all of the above but in R it should spin CC and not CW. Thanks for any input. Some cold ones are riding on this bet.

26. Check shift operation as follows:
? Place shift lever in FORWARD. Gear housing should ratchet when propeller shaft
is turned clockwise and resistance should be felt when propeller is turned counterclockwise.
? Place shift lever in NEUTRAL. Resistance should NOT be felt when propeller
shaft is rotated in either direction.
? Place shift lever in REVERSE. Resistance should be felt when propeller shaft is
rotated in either direction.
