I currently have a 2000, 25hp 2 stroke Johnson on my pontoon boat. For various reasons (repairs, reliability issues) I’m looking at replacing it. I’d like to go to a 4 stroke for noise, gas and (occasional) trolling.

I have a line on a 2003, 25hp 4 stroke Mercury.

The one addition thing I’d like to have with a replacement motor is a little more top end speed. Do you think I would get this with a 25hp 4 stroke vs the 25hp 2 stroke?
Thanks!

Is the 25 HP Johnson a 3 cylinder ?-----The 2 cylinder Johnson 25 HP is a very rugged reliable machine.

It is a 2 cylinder.
Yes, it has been a good engine. I’ve put it through some hard work as I have it on a “hobby” work barge which i have used for hauling lumber to build a water access only cottage. Now I’m looking for 4 stroke for the prior mentioned reasons.
