We have a 1994 Evinrude 25 that is our Duck boat motor and we ask it to go in some mighty nasty Illinois winter weather.
The issue is with Carb Ice on those super cold days. I am sure that is the problem as when it occures ,the lost of power is gradual and when it gets to slow, a few mins with no load and a closed throttle allows the heat from the pwr head to sink up and away we go.
Anyone have a thought about how to work around it or better prevent it?
Is it most likely Moisture in the fule or moisture from a steamy lake and all that atomized fule?

R Green

Re: 25 OMC winter carb icing

Moisture in the air is the likely suspect, R Green.

Cars avoid this by intake air preheaters. Don't know how to do that to an outboard.

Are you running full bonnet on that 25? You may be able to do something with the intake airflow patterns to warm it a bit before it gets to the carb.

Good luck. :)
