25 HP Yamaha 4 stroke

Hey Guys
A buddy of mine has a 25 HP Yamaha 4 stroke. He says he's getting water in his oil and asked me what I thought might be causing it. I told him the only things I could think of were a cracked block or a blown head gasket. Is there any thing else that could cause this problem?

Does he lay it on it's side when he stores it?

Does he hold the power head below the gear case when toting to the boat.

Those are two things

Nope, the motor stays hanging on the transom.
