Hey guys. 04 Johnson 25 horse not getting spark. The top cylinder is intermittent with a weak spark and bottom has no spark. New plugs in it and I checked the wires from the coil packs. Any idea which direction to go next? Thanks!

Best guess is the power pack. A friendly mechanic might have one he uses for testing (CD2SL), or $100-$120 for a new oem unit. If keeping the motor, a spare power pack is nice to have with you, assuming you don't need it quite yet.

Ok so I got new plugs, wires, coil packs ans I just finally got my power pack in today. Hooked it all up and it gets spark, but it's a weak spark. And after the first crank the spark dies or fades out really bad. Im out of ideas and going crazy over it. Has anybody else had this problem before???

Throwing parts at it gets expensive.----What trouble shooting was done ??

You got that right. When I got the motor I checked the spark from plug wires to plugs. Got nothing. Then with a test light I checked the coil pack. Nothing. Then checked the orange leads on the old power pack, top cylinder was very weak and intermittent. Bottom cylinder wire had nothing. So I checked the power coming into the power pack. Got a 12 volt reading. So I figured ok, bad power pack. I had cdi coil packs laying in a box from another motor I have that came with it. Also had wires and new correct part number plugs. So I threw all the new stuff on it. Crank it over, power pack leads are good. Light the test light up like the 4th of July. Checked the plug wires coming out of the coil packs and I got nothing on both cylinders. I'm sure I missed a step or did something wrong, im not the most mechanical inclined when it comes to outboards. So I don't know what is missing here.

Well-----12 volts from the battery is NOT USED to make spark for the plugs.----You will damage ignition parts by applying 12 volts in various places.----Do some trouble shooting .----A factory manual is cheaper than parts !

Rule out simple continuity issues. Get a battery operated tester (kind with a AA or AAA battery). Test light indicates continuity. Test wires end to end. You need solid core wires, not automotive style. Break in continuity may be at the spring connector in a boot -- spike must contact the wire core.
