I have a 1994 25HP Mercury electric start on the tiller that ran fine until the other day. I had started it several times on my last trip but when I went to start it to leave, nothing. When I hit the start button nothing happened. There is no clicking at the solenoid or anything. I can start it by jumping across the two solenoid posts. I have checked all the connections and they are fine. I would appreciate any help!

Sound like the starter solinoid needs to be replaced - you know it's not the starter because of when you jump the connections, so I'd order a new solinoid and you'll be off to the races.

I have a new solenoid on it. I thought that might be the problem, but still nothing.

Welcome aboard.

Put a meter or test light on the solenoid to see if you get voltage when you press the button. Might be a bad start switch.

Thanks GA_Boater. I had recently replaced the solenoid, which was bad. When this happened I mistakenly thought it had gone out again. I replaced it and it didn't solve the problem. I will try your recommendation ASAP and reply. Thanks again.

Sorry it's taken so long to reply. Been on vacation. I light tested the starter switch to the solenoid and had power there. There is another small switch to the right of the solenoid that power goes to that seems to possibly be the problem. This is where the current stops.
