25 HP Evinrude timing

Having some bad recoil when pull starting my 25 HP Evinrude 1990.
Has a new fuel pump, carb,power pack and coils. How dom you set the timing?

If the engine is 'kicking back' when starting, it is often due to a double firing power pack.
Either attach both plug wires to a spark tester or pull the plugs and ground them.
Pull the starter cord and notice the spark sequence.
They should fire 1-2-1-2-1-2-...
If you notice that they are fire both on the same time,(1,2-2-1,2-2-..) change the powerpack!
The only timing to adjust is the max timing.

You could also have a sheared flywheel key.
