I have a 1978 sea ray cuddy 220 i have the floor ripped out and the foam all out it was water logged i pulled prob. 1000 lbs. of watterlogged foam and rotten deck and stringers. Well my question is i really dont like the idea of putting foam back in there ive read alot of forums on here and i have a few myself but u guys jump around alot and thats ok but its it 100% nessesary to put foam and stingers back in i dont see how the stingers add support when they dont even touch the hull they are like floating studs so i dont think that add support for the boat and the foam issue my boat will float without the foam i know that it is just there so it wont sink all the way not is that 100 percent true or does the foam add support for my boat i dont see how it does but im not sure just to clearify i have 3 question DO I NEED TO PUT STRINGERS BACK IN ? DO I NEED TO PUT FOAM BACK IN? AND IF YES DO I HAVE TO PUT THE STRINGERS BACK IN EXACLY HOW THEY CAME OUT OR CAN I JUST FRAME WITH SOME 2X4'S
AND STUFF SOME SHEETS OF THAT PINK OR BLUE FOAM FROM HOME DEPOT OR POOL NOODLES...PLEASE DONT POINT ME TO OTHER FORUMS LOL TRYING TO GET SOME STRAIT FORWARD ANSWERS THANKS CHECK OUT THE PICS AND SEE WHAT U THINK.also so u guys know im working on a 21'7" 1978 Sea Ray cuddy 220 please let me know thanks everyone!!!!

+1 with ezmobee The stringers need to go back just like they come out. The stress the hull takes is absorbed by the stiffness of the stringers and the manufacturer figured out where to put them to keep it so. And the foam is up to you what you like to use foam sheets and pool noodles have been used before. There are formulas to figure out how much of each you need to keep your boat neutral bouyancy in an emergency.

http://www.uscgboating.org/regulations/boatbuilder_s_handbook/flotation_part1_f.aspx

Your boat needs to float even when it sinks. It needs some floatation fuel tanks, life jackets, trapped air pockets, bumpers ...... all add floatation. States have there own rules as well. Just in case I want all the floatation I can get. I dont know where u boat but why not keep you and your family safe.
