Hello,

Kill switch on my 1991 Johnson 20HP does not seem to work, tried to short black/yellow wire to ground directly (by passing push button) but nothing happens. Second (possible) issue, exhaust fumes and minor traces of oil are comming from two holes at the front of the tail (about 20 cm below power head) possble gasket problem??. Engine runs fine and (finally) idles after some serious carb cleaning. Any suggestions are welcome.

if shorting the black/yellow to ground didn't kill it then the powerpack is bad < ufi ignition unless someone has already changed it over to an external powerpack/under the flywheel trigger sensor setup >...try marineengine.com for diagrams of your engine as it may help pinpoint the location of the 2 holes you're referring to

Just ordered a repair manual, in the mean time I made some pictures about the "holes" I was refering to.
As you can see there are signs of fumes/oil. Question is, is this normal ?

Thanks

The kill switch issue, there is an obvious ground hook up at the right (see photograph)
The other wire is hooked up to what could be a yellow/black wire (third from the left) but the markings have weathered so I am not 100% sure it is in fact yellow/black. Are the wires always in the same position on this block and does anybody know if it has been connected correctly?
