20ft pontoon with 16ft deck help

hello i just got my first poontoon and it has a 16 ft deck on it was thinking of making the deck bigger like maybe a 20ft deck or maybee wider any reason why it would not be ok? also what would be the top hourse power for this boat i got a 125 force not all that great also a 150 yamaha pro v love it.and a 55 johnson i am thinking 125 and 150 is way to big not sure tho<br />also boat came with a 25 rude way to small i think .anyone ever converted a say 16ft boat trailer to poontoon trailer is it hard? thanks a ton and i love iboats helped me a hole lot so far

Anything is possible, but adding to the length or width may make the boat a bit tippy. Usually pontoon boats are as wide as can be towed on the highway so that also poses a concern. The boat should have a maximum horsepower rating posted on it and I'd use that as your guide as to how much power you can safely run on it. I'd bet it's not rated for over 90 h.p - if that.<br /><br />I would think converting an existing boat trailer to a pontoon trailer would only allow you to use or salvage the axle, wheels / tires, and some of the frame as they are completely different designs. That doesn't mean you shouldn't consider it, just keep in mind that the retrofit might be more work than starting with individual parts.

i don't know the proper names of the types of poontoon trailers. but watching them on the road the ones that have the wheels insde the toons seem to be unstable compare to the wider axle ones.
