It's Memorial Day weekend, so it's the longest race of the year at Charlotte, the Coke 600. And practice and qualifying, too. What a novel idea.

News and Notes

• We may have full grandstands this weekend as many COVID restrictions have been lifted in North Carolina.
• COTA penalties - 1 X-Team with a loose lugnut. But Chase Elliott's spotter has been suspended for a domestic violence arrest.
• Race schedule change - The Truck race in Ontario, Canada at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park will be moved to Darlington. Same date and time - September 5th. All because of COVID.
• Spray from cars was a real problem in the rain at COTA. Richmond hosted a damp track test;
  • Joey Logano said all three teams at Richmond damp track tire test on Monday had different versions of mud flaps. He indicated some work needs to be done still to control the spray. He said they saw no spray when on slicks so he wonders if something can be done with the tread.
  • Mudflap Girl?
• TV rating - 1.4 with 2,362,000 tuned in to watch Sunday’s rain race at Circuit of the Americas. That makes it the 2nd lowest rated race of the regular season.

During Truck practice a short while ago, 7 trucks had issues. Some messed up trucks will be switched over to backups.

Wonder how X-Men and Cup session will go. Maybe rubber on the track will help. Most of the Trucks spun out.

What did Humpty say about overnight showers? Pay no attention to that guy!

Got Truck practice in, along with X-Men. Right now Trucks should be qualifying. No, it's raining and Truck qualifying has been canceled. Starting spots will be set be whatever rule is in effect this week.

Next up if the track is dried will be Cup practice at 7PM, followed by the Truck race at 8:30.

Creed won the first Truck heat as it begins to rain lightly.

New leader - Hemric.

Competition caution on lap 20 in about 5 laps.

Hemric kept the lead on the restart.

Hemric won the first heat.

And Hemric also wins the middle heat.

Yellow for Mills spin and wall kiss after a brush with another car.

Only a few laps after the last heat start.

Jeb Burton spins and hits the wall for yellow. Hemric is blocked in his pit and had to back up to get out, losing 8 spots.

Just before the yellow, Briscoe took the lead and held it through pit stops and the restart. 73 laps to go.

Caution again for almost debris. The bumper cover on the Earnhardt is waving in the wind. 53 to go.

Sieg only took fuel and will lead them off.

Yellow in half a lap after the green. Sieg and Briscoe were battling for the lead and suddenly Sieg turned left to sliding sideways, he caught it and turned right in front of the 13th or 4th place car. Some how only a couple of cars involved.

With 19 to go Ty Gibbs takes the lead and with Briscoe just off his left rear, Gibbs spins. Yellow flag.
