Considering an external fuel filter (ex. 10 micron).

NOTE: I believe there is only one fuel filter under the motor cowling.

Is this 10 micron too restrictive/not recommended for this size motor?

My thoughts are that the 10 micron external fuel filters can be too restrictive for the smaller/portable size motors, as their fuel pumps are not of sufficient size to suck/pump fuel through this type filter. Am I correct in my thinking?

Thoughts?

Is the Yamaha external 10 micron fuel/water filter correct and suitable for this size motor? Again, I believe they are for the larger, non portable, motors.

Thanks

No.... A good, high quality filter will have very little pressure drop to begin with.

The filters I use (racor) have a 0.2 psi pressure drop pushing 30 GPH. Goes up to 0.3 psi at 60 gph.
At the rate your 25 hp burns fuel the pressure drop will be next to nothing
Thoughts?

Not sure about a 25 HP, but Yamaha recommends a 5 micron filters on the larger HP motors to protect the injectors

Thanks!
I believe the Yamaha 10 micron spin on filters have printed on them, "115hp or less"
Flow ratings are determined by a filter’s cross section (filter size). The HP limitation is the result of its small cross section, not it’s micron rating.

There are two sizes of 10 micron external fuel filters available from Yamaha. A large one for large motors and a small one for small motors. Of course the small motors can use the large one.

Yes; I went with the mini-10

BTW....head/filter and filters....out of stock in three Yamaha dealer/places I checked. They show in stock when ordered, but after ordered, they told me not sure when they will receive
