2014 Yamaha 115hp not enough amps to start motor

Hi everyone!
I have a 2014 115hp Yamaha 4 stroke and am having issues starting the motor.
I have a new battery. When I start the engine it just turns and turns.
If I put a starting charger on the battery and turn the key, boom, starts right up.
No starting charger, just turns over, flooding the engine and every once in awhile a nice big backfire.
I did remove all connections to battery and cleaned very well.
I also took the battery to auto center and did a load test on it. Came out perfect!
It's not getting enough amps to get a strong spark and fire off.
Any idea on what part is broken? Thanks!

bad connection in there somewhere leads to not enough voltage and current.
does the starter spin the motor faster when you hook the charger to the system?

Yes, when the battery starter is hooked up the engine turns much faster resulting in the engine starting.
No battery starter results in the engine turning over but just not fast enough to spark.

does this motor use 12 volts to the coils to cause spark?

If so, you still have a connection problem.
not getting proper voltage and current

I just had to replace the battery cables on a 2010 Honda 90 for the same problem. The cable had corroded internally, in the middle of the cable, leaving no visual clues there was an issue. It wasn't until I spotted a wisp of smoke coming from the very hot cable that it dawned on me what was causing the "slow/labored" cranking....

This is a 2014 4 stroke 115hp Yamaha outboard. I would think that this starts on 12v but not for sure.

Sure 12 volts is used for the starter motor.-----Most outboards today use an ignition system run by a magneto.----For example Johnson / Evinrude put an electronic magneto on the 1971 model 50 HP.----Battery was used to crank it over.-----And 12 volts was not used to make spark for plugs.

The battery cable goes right to the starter. The starter works. So it has to be the battery cables that go tho the starter, right? What else could it be? Are there solenoids that go bad on these?

I finally had time to check the boat. I put the jumper cable on the positive side only and started it. Started right up. The cable looks almost brand new! I guess all the salt water makes it go bad inside. Well, time to change the cables out and it should be good again!

You are wrong. MOST modern outboards require 12 volts in order for the engine management computer to control the ignition and fuel injection system. All outboards 40HP and above are electronic fuel injected.

Most all Yamaha four strokes use a transistorized ignition system. Battery voltage powers the ignition coil. Controlled by what Yamaha calls the ECU. Engine Control Unit. It switches off battery power to cause the coil to fire the plug.

A relative few Yamaha four strokes, and a number of Yam two strokes, use a different ignition system. Capacitive discharge where electrical power is created by a charge coil which is stored in the CDI assembly. The CDI assembly provides power to the ignition coil to cause it to spark.

Measure battery voltage at the battery while the motor is being cranked. What is it?

Measure battery voltage at the starter motor solenoid while the motor is being cranked. What is it?

make sure you pull and clean all connection on both ends of both cables before buying new cables. may save you a few dollars
